Federation of Congregations United to Serve (FOCUS) leaders travelled from Orlando to Tallahassee on October 1 to deliver the letters to Governor Crist, House Speaker Rubio, and Senate President Pruitt asking them to add KidCare Reform to the October Special Session. The reform would improve inefficient administration that discourages parents from applying for the program and threatens the loss of millions of dollars in federal funding. Less than two weeks later the Florida State Senate passed $1.1 million legislation that will open 5,000 new slots in the program. In addition, the Florida Chief Financial Officer implemented changes that permit easier application procedures.
